Opportunity

Each year, The Duke Endowment releases a uniquely themed suite of materials that together comprise its annual report—a print publication and microsite that speak to the real-life impact of its grantmaking, and two downloadable addendums documenting financial and grantmaking details. As a signature communication, the annual report is creatively distinct each year. In the leadup to 2024—the high-profile 100th anniversary of the Endowment’s founding—it also needed to carry the themes and messages of a special centennial campaign. 

Approach

For nearly two decades, Williams Group has partnered with the Endowment to develop annual report themes, titles, designs and digital experiences that bring the organization’s story to life. To align with the centennial’s dual focus on reflection and forward vision, we approached the annual report as a cohesive, two-year endeavor, beginning in 2023.

The first, Reflections (2023), celebrates enduring grantee relationships and the impact achieved over the Endowment’s first century—while inviting audiences to engage with the organization’s legacy. The second, NEXT (2024), looks forward at the needs of the next 100 years and highlights grantee stories that reflect the focus of Endowment grantmaking.

Williams Group designed the 2024 report with a bold, bright, modern look and feel that conveyed movement and transition. Together, the two reports captured the spirit of the Endowment’s centennial celebration.

Results

Thousands of people important to The Duke Endowment’s mission received, downloaded and explored the reports—and shared positive feedback with enthusiasm. Endowment staff were thrilled to have this versatile piece to support events, conversations and relationship building throughout the centennial campaign.
