Communications Project Leader

Williams Group is currently seeking a standout project leader with five to seven years of relevant experience, preferably in a client services or agency environment.

Overview

For more than 40 years, Williams Group (Wg) has been home to a dynamic and passionate group of writers, designers and project leaders who collaborate to provide a full range of strategic communications services. At Wg, we think deeply and work hard. We love helping our clients connect with the people they care about most.

Williams Group is currently seeking a standout project leader to support our largest corporate account, which includes multiple clients and initiatives across departments. The Wg team responsible for this account is energetic and fast-paced, often acting as an extension of our clients’ own teams. In this role, you will serve as a primary connector between client objectives, communications strategy and on-the-ground implementation.

This is a full-time position located in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, though associates are currently working remotely during the pandemic.

What you'll do

In this position, you will be both project leader and contributor. As each client request comes in, you will determine the needs of the project, identify the most appropriate approach and resources to fill those needs, and partner with others to complete each project, meeting Wg quality standards and exceeding client expectations.

You will wear a variety of hats depending on the needs of each project. In some cases, you will be the director; in others, you will be the doer. You’ll balance hands-on team collaboration with an independent, self-sufficient work ethic. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitating client conversations to determine project goals and objectives
  • Identifying potential strategies and creating implementation plans
  • Establishing project schedule and deadlines
  • Leading and managing teams of varying sizes and skillsets to fulfill project needs
  • Participating in the execution of communication tactics (e.g., content development, communications planning, event management, product launch supports, etc.)
  • Maintaining strong client communication throughout every step of a project
  • Ensuring all projects are completed in scope, on time and on budget
  • Recognizing and pursuing new business opportunities
  • Leading and supporting internal Wg strategies and initiatives
  • Contributing to a positive, inclusive environment

Your qualifications

  • Five to seven years of related experience, agency experience preferred
  • Understanding of brand, messaging and design fundamentals
  • Excellent communication, client service and interpersonal skills
  • Strong writing and content development capabilities
  • Experience or familiarity with a broad range of communication tools and approaches
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects of varying sizes at the same time
  • Experience presenting in front of others and facilitating discussions via phone, videoconference and/or in person
  • Commitment to quality and attention to detail
  • A collaborative, solution-oriented attitude
  • Ability to work extended hours when needed

Compensation and benefits

$60,000 – $80,000 salary plus bonuses, with opportunity to grow through contribution to the success of Wg clients, commerce and culture. Initial salary is determined based on experience and ability to contribute.

Benefits include and are not limited to:

  • Ability to work from home
  • Support for professional development
  • 401(k) plan with employer match and annual profit-sharing contributions
  • Health insurance, including dependents
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance
  • Paid holidays, vacations and sick time
